August 2003
Brazil: Boa
Morte 2003 - August 13-23,
2003
Festival of Nossa Senhora DaBoa Morte
We urge you to join us in our exploration
of Brazil August 12-22, 2003. Brazil is as
exotic and unique as you have heard and we
wanted to explore our African history to celebrate
our 85th Anniversary.
Between 1450 and 1850 an estimated 12 to
18 million Africans were shipped to the America.
Much of this slave trafficking went through
Brazil. It was likely the largest importer
of slaves, exceeding the North American Colonies
and the West Indies. Brazil has a racial mix
of African, Amer-Indian and Portuguese peoples.
Brazilians are proud of their multiple heritages.
Based on past experience, Urban League African
Heritage Tours are very popular. Fifty-two
passengers went on the 1998 80th Anniversary
trip to Ghana Senegal and the Ivory Coast.
Followed by Urban League of Pittsburgh delegations
touring Ghana in 1999 and 2000.
Those who are interested in coming on the
trip should register by sending in their initial
$300 deposit directly to the travel agent
and then can make payment arrangements.
Don’t wait! Act now to ensure your place
and the trip’s success.
