The National Achievers Society (NAS) is a
program sponsored by the National Urban League,
Inc. and the Congress of National Black Churches
(CNBC). NAS honors aspiring young achievers
through the Campaign for African American
Achievement (cAAA) Initiative. The purpose
of NAS is to foster a supportive peer culture,
which promotes achievement among African-American
youth and other youth of color. Membership
into NAS is determined by a rigorous eligibility
standard. Students must: Be in grades 9-12;
earn all A’s and B’s; have been granted awards,
scholarships or scholastic acknowledgments
for artistic abilities, academic merit, or
leadership service; and must have a sponsor
to recommend him/her into the Society.
During the National Achievement Society Induction
Ceremony, students are inducted into the Pittsburgh
NAS. Students share their visions and goals
for the future at the ceremony. After induction
into NAS, members become eligible for one
of 100 four-year $10,000 scholarships.

The Urban League of Pittsburgh, Inc. and
Carnegie Mellon University will host their
fifth annual College Success 101 Conference
on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University.
The theme for this year’s event is Breaking
Boundaries: Focus On Your Future.
High School Sophomore and Junior students
from Pittsburgh Public Schools and surrounding
areas will have an event-filled day where
they will receive information about the college
process, how to prepare for college and attend
an on-site job fair.
