Development and External Relations
The Development and External Relations Department is responsible for managing activities related to the analysis, planning, execution, control, and evaluation of fundraising and public relations programs that are designed to enhance and support the overall mission of Urban League. Through its fundraising and public relations programs, the Development and External Relations Department plans and executes three major events each year:
• State of Black Pittsburgh Opportunity Fair & Conference
• The Ronald H. Brown Leadership Awards Gala & Silent Auction
• Urban League Sunday
An important part of the Development and External Relations Department is soliciting, evaluating and maintaining its donor and membership database. There are four primary ways a person can support the Urban League of Pittsburgh:
• Designating a United Way gift or employee contribution using our donor designation code 103
• Make a direct contribution
• Become a Member of the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh
• Renew a lapsed Urban League Membership
The Development and External Relations Department is responsible for reviewing and editing all written communication materials including grants, press releases, web content, flyers, brochures, and marketing materials. The Annual Report and “Urban League Voice”, the Agency’s quarterly newsletter, are also produced by the Department.
The Development and External Relations Department produces a live, call-in radio show hosted by the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh’s President and CEO called “Urban Reality”. The show airs every other Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on WAMO, AM 860 and features guests discussing issues of importance to the African American community.
