On Tuesday, April 26, 2005, the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh's African American Leadership Development Program publicly launched the bridge: An African American Guide to Pittsburgh.  the bridge was developed as a resource guidebook to be used by corporations, organizations and institutions of higher educaion to help market the cultural amenities of the region as well as the services provided to the African American community in order to atttract newcomers.  The bridge offers ready access to those personal services cultural resources, activities, and experiences that are most meaningful to Pittsburgh's diverse community.

 

The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh in the 21st Century:  1999-2003 - A five year supplement to Daybreakers.  This volume follows the League's struggles and growth into the first years of the 21st centruy, with a special chapter devoted to National Urban League Conference, which returned to Pittsburgh in 2003 for the first time in nearly 50 years.  When Daybreakers is reissued in a third edtions, these chapters - along with additional updates - will be included in it.  For now, however, it serves as a companion volume to the Second Edition

Now in its second edition, Daybreakers is an exploration of the urban experience of African Americans in Pittsburgh from 1918 to 1998. It is a tribute to the many men and women who labored long and hard in an up-hill battle for equality in Pittsburgh. Book is available for purchase at the Urban League for $14.99



 



African American Leadership Directory II

The African American Leadership Directory includes biographical sketches of 273 African American professionals who are committed to serving the region through social and civic engagement. The publication of Directory II was underwritten by Mellon Financial Corporation. The first directory helped open the doors to membership for African American professionals I more than 86 nonprofit, civic, and corporate boards in the area.
