WHAT IS THE URBAN LEAGUE GUILD?
The Urban League Guild is an auxiliary organization administered by Urban League affiliates.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE GUILD?
To assist in promoting the vital community services of the League and to develop and implement special fund raising projects.
The Guild is an inter-racial, non-profit organization that provides high quality leadership to the Urban Leagues on a local, regional and a national level. The Pittsburgh chapter, established in 1954, actively recruits both men and women volunteers.
HISTORY OF THE GUILD
The first Urban League Guild was established in 1942 by Mrs. Mollie Moon to help raise revenue for the National Urban League, presenting considerable funds to the Urban League on an annual basis. Her untiring efforts generated interest throughout the Urban League movement and prompted other affiliates to organize guilds to help raise money in their own local areas. In 1952, at the National Urban League Conference held in Cleveland, Ohio, the National Council of Guilds was established.
The Council has been an official participating group at the National Conference since then. In 1968, the council established Regional Guild Conferences.
VOLUNTEER MEMBER COMMITMENT
The Guild has two important responsibilities to its local affiliate. The first is to provide fund raising support to the Urban League; the other is to provide supportive community service programs. The Guild must be solvent to support its commitments.
Nationally, there are 80 'financial' Guilds with a combined membership of 8,000 and growing!

URBAN LEAGUE GUILD CREDO
Keep us, O God, from pettiness
Let us be large in thought,
in word and deed.
May we put away all pretense
and meet each other face to face
without prejudice
May we never be hasty in our judgment,
and always be generous.
